Important info on MPI Best Manuscript Award

We are excited to announce the first MetaProteomics Initiative (MPI) Best Manuscript Award, which will be presented at the 6th IMS, taking place January 13-15, 2025 in Oslo, Norway.

The MPI Best Manuscript Award was established to give early career researchers the opportunity to gain visibility in the metaproteomics community and to highlight important contributions from Early Career Researchers in the field of metaproteomics.

We encourage early career researchers to participate in this competition with a manuscript already submitted to peer-reviewed journal or a preprint server between the last IMS in Avignon and our next symposium. The abstracts of the finalists selected by our Best Manuscript Award committee will be made available to the community so that all members can vote for the winner. The winner will be invited to the 6th IMS and given the opportunity to present their work in a dedicated plenary session. Application deadline: November 01, 2024.

Eligibility criteria

The competition is intended for Early Career Researchers (PhD not yet obtained or obtained less than six years ago (January 01, 2019)). Applicants must be members of the metaproteomics initiative. Leave of absence (e.g. due to parental leave or illness) will extend the eligibility period by twice the duration of the leave of absence.

Publication criteria

The applicant must have made a significant contribution to the publication as first or last author (or as joint first/last author). The publication must be an original research article. Review articles will not be considered in this competition, but short communications and methods papers are welcome. The publication must be (1) accepted, (2) in print or (3) available on a preprint server at the time of submission to the competition, but must not have been published before the last IMS in 2023 (April 25, 2023). The publication must be in English.

How to apply

A complete application including the following documents needs to be send by email to info@metaproteomics.org before November 01, 2024.

  • PDF file of the manuscript (including the supplementary information, if it applies):
  • A 300-word statement highlighting the significance of the work
  • (Optional) A declaration regarding any leave of absence along with the exact dates and duration.

Selection Process: A committee consisting of members of the advisory board of the Metaproteomics Initiative will score the publications and select finalists based on the following criteria:

  • The impact of the work for the metaproteomics community
  • Quality/state-of-the-art of the workflow, including the wet lab, data acquisition and data analysis parts, as well as application of FAIR (findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability) principles

The three best manuscripts will then be made available to the community in early December and all Metaproteomics Initiative members will have the chance to vote for their best manuscript before the 6th IMS in Oslo.
